Woodworking

Return to Activity Directory

The woodwork shop can be used by any BHS member with some woodworking experience who has completed a safety orientation, which usually takes up to three hours. Certain high-risk tools will require additional training.

Woodworkers are required to sign a release form before using the shop, to sign in and out as they enter and leave, and to review the shop rules regularly.

To arrange an orientation, email bhwworkers@gmail.com. If you have no woodworking experience but would like to learn, contact us to discuss options. You can often find the woodworker volunteers in the shop on Monday and Thursday mornings, when volunteers are working on fundraising projects to support BHS.

Woodworking 101

An introductory class ideal for both novices wanting to learn the fundamentals of woodworking, and more advanced woodworkers wanting to refresh their skills. The class is organized around students’ individual projects. We will cover basic skills, project design, safety and techniques, and planning the steps for completing your project and achieving your project goals. Students will be mentored and supervised by the instructors. When you’ve completed the course, you’ll be able to work independently in the workshop
