Job Opportunity: Volunteer Coordinator and Programs Assistant
Location: Vancouver, BC
Salary: $50,000 - 55,000 CAD per year

Job Purpose
The Volunteer Coordinator & Programs Assistant supports Brock House Society’s mission by (1) recruiting, onboarding, and engaging a vibrant, diverse volunteer community and (2) assisting in the coordination and delivery of programs and events that enrich the lives of older adults. This role combines people-focused volunteer management with hands-on program operations, communications, and light administration to ensure a welcoming, organized, and high-quality member experience.
What you'll do
Volunteer Coordination:

Volunteer Recruitment & Support: Evaluate organizational needs and members’ strengths to recruit a diverse, mission-aligned volunteer pool. Provide continuous support to ensure volunteers remain engaged, empowered, and contribute effectively to Brock House Society’s strategic goals.

Onboarding & Training: Design and conduct comprehensive orientations for new volunteers. Develop and implement ongoing training opportunities to enhance volunteer effectiveness and satisfaction. Maintain an up-to-date Volunteer Handbook as a consistent guide/reference.

Scheduling & Retention: Coordinate volunteer schedules, ensure adequate coverage, and foster a positive volunteer experience to support retention. Develop strategies to attract and retain a diverse group of volunteers.

Strategic Partnerships: Build and strengthen partnerships with local organizations, schools, and businesses to enhance volunteer outreach and support organizational growth.

Volunteer Recognition & Engagement: Plan and execute volunteer appreciation events and initiatives to recognize contributions and celebrate volunteerism.

Continuous Development & Support: Maintain ongoing dialogue and collaborative relationships with volunteers to address changing needs, navigate conflicts, and co-create solutions that reflect the spirit of Brock House and support operational goals.

Data Management & Reporting: Track volunteer hours, assess trends, and maintain accurate records. Prepare regular reports on volunteer performance and program outcomes for internal and external stakeholders.
Programs Assistance:

Program & Event Coordination: Assist with the smooth operation of programs, activities, and services, including the Bistro, Greeter Desk, and Office. Coordinate with the Programs Coordinator and program leaders to ensure effective execution of programs, events, activities, and logistics.

Administrative Support: Support the development of program schedules, timelines, and materials. Assist with program assessments, surveys, and reporting to ensure continuous improvement.

Conflict Resolution & Service Orientation: Handles issues with discretion, empathy, and professionalism; promotes a welcoming culture.

Organizational Skills: Strong time management; able to juggle multiple projects and daily priorities.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Health Sciences, Gerontology, Communications, or a related discipline.

Experience working with older adults in a non-profit setting is an asset, but not required.

Demonstrated experience in program development and member communication.

Experience in volunteer management.

Familiarity with financial management/budgeting and basic reporting.

Proficiency with digital tools for communication and database management (e.g., email/newsletter tools, websites/social media, spreadsheets, volunteer/membership databases).

Must be willing to work partial weekends and occasional early evenings; position requires on-site work.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:

A combination of desk work and on-site program/volunteer support (event setup, light materials handling). Requires flexibility, adaptability, and frequent in-person interaction.
