A Vancouverite from the beginning, I started violin lessons when I was 9 with Mr. Shaw who lived around the corner in Kerrisdale. He was wonderful and encouraged my playing in groups, eventually steering me to the Vancouver Junior Symphony in my teens. My next teacher was Cardo Smalley, who, at the time, was assistant concertmaster with the VSO. He actually picked out the violin for me that I play today.
Over the years I played in the Vancouver Philharmonic, the New Westminster Symphony and the Kingston Symphony when I went to Queens university in Ontario. Currently I play in the North Shore Chamber Orchestra as well as Brock House and in a quartet which is great fun.
I’ve been with Brock House Orchestra for about 7 years and enjoy it thoroughly. We are an enthusiastic and hard-working group and, most importantly, enjoy ourselves and our conductor. Feel very lucky to have music be so central in my “Elder” years!
When not playing I love to be outdoors hiking, biking, snow-shoeing, kayaking or long rambles with my dog.
